Block Island Real Estate

There are approximately 1,600 homes across Block Island’s 7,040 acres. While the market has been vibrant, the number of homes available in any given price range is always limited. Many potential buyers have spent years waiting for an island home that’s right for them.

With each real estate sale there is a 3-percent fee, payable to the Block Island Land Trust, established by the town and empowered by the state legislature to preserve undeveloped lands and protect Block Island’s aquifer.

One interesting aspect of the Block Island economy is its “cottage industry” of weekly rentals. The island is thick with temporary hotels; over 400 island homes are rented for 12 weeks (more or less) each summer. Rates for these homes range from about $1,200 to over $5,000 per week.
